How We Price Used Auto Parts
Transparent, data-driven pricing. We combine market averages, sold listings, salvage values, and demand factors so every price is fair and defensible.
Our Data Sources
Market Averages
Industry benchmarks for part categories, vehicle segments, and condition levels. Updated from wholesale and retail channels.
eBay Sold Prices
Completed sales from eBay and similar marketplaces. We filter by condition, vehicle fitment, and recency to normalize outliers.
Salvage Values
Pricing data from salvage yards, dismantlers, and recyclers. Reflects core and usable part values in the wholesale market.
Historical Data
Our own historical sales and partner feedback. Helps refine estimates for rare parts and niche vehicles.
The Pricing Formula
Our AI applies a formula that combines multiple factors to produce a fair market price:
- Base Price: Median market value for the part across similar vehicles and conditions.
- Condition Factor: Multiplier based on grade A (1.0) through D (~0.3). See our grading system.
- Demand Factor: Higher for rare parts, popular vehicles, or regions with less supply. Lower for common parts.
- Vehicle Premium: Premium for luxury, performance, or specialty vehicles where parts command higher prices.
Example: Alternator for 2018 Toyota Camry
| Factor | Value | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Base price (market median) | $120 | — |
| Condition (Grade B) | 0.85 | Normal wear, fully functional |
| Demand (common part) | 0.95 | High supply, moderate demand |
| Vehicle premium | 1.0 | Standard passenger vehicle |
| Est. Price | $97 | 120 × 0.85 × 0.95 × 1.0 |
* Example for illustration. Actual prices vary by listing and seller.
